Preparation of MORO soup
If your four-legged friend suddenly has acute digestive problems, you as the master or mistress are often overwhelmed. But what can you do yourself in addition to, or before, visiting the vet?
Usually, in addition to any drug treatment that may be necessary to relieve the affected bowel, a diet is administered for a few days.
In the acute phase, carrot soup – also known as Moro soup – can also be prepared. It’s a carrot soup that the famous Austrian pediatrician Ernst Moro used successfully in the early 20th century – prepared according to ancient recipes.
home – for children suffering from diarrhoea. It consists exclusively of carrots, water and salt, and can be prepared quickly and easily in a saucepan or in the Thermomix. It will keep in the refrigerator for about 2 days.
The soup is served in small portions at room temperature about half an hour before each meal. Since small portions of food must be offered throughout the day (4 to 5 times) for intestinal problems, the soup should be
also be divided accordingly.
As a guide, dogs consume around 30 ml per kg of body weight throughout the day.
Recipe suggestion for Moro’s carrot soup:
500g carrots
1 liter of water
1 c. teaspoon salt
a little boiled water for topping up (1L total preparation)
Preparation:
1. Peel and chop carrots,
2. Bring 1 liter of water to the boil and simmer the carrots for 2 hours.
3. Then puree and fill the soup with boiled water up to one liter (the consistency should be like liquid yoghurt).
4. Add salt. Ready!
Tip: Prepare a larger quantity (depending on the size of your dog) to freeze several portions.
Moro soup should always be considered as an adjunct to veterinary therapy, not as a substitute for it.
Always have plenty of fresh water available.
